This week I reviewed what I’d written for the first draft of my new novel, made notes about the changes I’ll need to make as I work my way through the second draft, and rewrote chapter one. It’s the longest chapter I’ve written yet (and this is what I originally thought might be just a prologue!)
I’ve been taking a long time with it, but ‘Complete Disaster’ (the title of the first chapter) starts off the series as well as this book. So it’s important to get it just right. I have to introduce the main character and establish the world he lives in (at least enough to be getting on with.) I also have to grab your interest and keep the story rolling along at a nice clip. But I think I’ve got that balanced the way I’d like.
